Vibrance in the Sky, Frank Island and Lennard Island Lighthouse, Chesterman Beach, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Presence

As evening comes
Even as the land goes dark and grey

An added vibrance
To the sky

Reminds me
Of your presence

The days a little brighter
The nights a little lighter

My life a little better

All for reasons
I cannot comprehend

No simple explanation
But a simple truth

My life a little better

Weathered, Frank Island, Chesterman Beach, Tofino, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Weather ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #122

Broken sleek
The hardened shore
In answer to
The winter storms

Here life conforms
To wind and sea
Which cleaves the stone
With crushing wave

Gathering of Friends, Amphitrite Lighthouse, Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Gathering Friends

A gathering of friends
Where the storm blows
Driving intermittent rains
And waves against
The rocky shore
A lighthouse anchoring
Reason for the foray
Destination for the day

Still
The best moments
Gathered in little circles
Words and laughter exchanged
While the stormy world
Just falls away

Waves, Long Beach, Pacific Rim National Park, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada II

Waves

The wave rolls and rolls and rolls
Having crested well out to sea
Up the long, shallow beach
Never with much force

Foamy leading edge
Losing momentum

Energy fading

It hangs

Still

Just

A moment

Shaping Clouds, Chesterman Beach, Tofino, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Shaping Clouds

It surprises me
Sometimes
Which words reach
Which words do not
Which pix are loved
Which pix are not

Sometimes
I know
Sometimes not
Which will touch
Which will not

Surprised, too
Often
By how they are read
By what is seen
By others

Amphitrite Lighthouse, Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Unexpected Light

Sometimes
The light I seek
Is not to be found
Emanating from the elegant spire
Tradition expects
But from a plain, squat block
On a blackened beach

No matter
It is still the light
And the unexpected source
Offers additional insight

I open my heart and mind
To the abundance
Of possibility

The Retreat, Amphitrite Point, Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

The Retreat

She retreated
Not because the waves
Had come perilously close
Nor because the wind
Made it difficult to stand

She retreated because she had come
To feel the tumult of the ocean
To feel the battering of the wind
To feel the beauty of violence

Without consciousness
This is why she came here
And for a while
It was beautiful
And calming

Proximity to Mortality, Blackrock Resort, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Clinging to Inhospitable

The grit
And determination
With which life clings
To even the most
Inhospitable places
Astounds me

The iciest cold
The rockiest coastline
The hottest desert

And when I say life
Of course I mean
Homo sapiens

Lavender, Canary and Cobalt, Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Lavender, Canary and Cobalt

Sometimes I like to imagine
A world just like my own
But with some small, unsubtle change

Lavender sun
Cobalt clouds
Canary sky

I love
That I get to bring
Such visions to life

Stormy Crossing, Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo, Queen of Cowichan, BC Ferries, Strait of Georgia, British Columbia, Canada

Threatening Weather

Windswept ragged
Choppy sea
Islands recede
Occluded grey
Splattered raindrops
Penetrate me

Though I flinch
In a fusillade
Of wind and rain
I stay on deck

Deep breath
