Three figures teeter on distant rock
Silent silhouettes
Animate without the subtlety of gesture
Barely beings
Tottering along
A knife’s edge horizon

Three lives there
Faceless beneath the clouds
Unknown
Unknowable
But for outlines
Against the sky

One drops off the world
Lost forever
To anonymity
But for the unnamed character
Forming in the theatre
Of my mind

Hearing Silence

In the emptiness, I listen

In the silence
I begin to hear the wind

I render the wind silent
And begin to hear the sand
Rustling across the dunes

Silence the sand
To hear the dune
Which sings the song
Of desert’s true nature

Tenacity
Life finds it way
To barren rock
Beside a salty sea

Whether just a patch of green
Or misshapen spindly tree
Harassed by wind’s
Ferocity

Life grows
It plunders
Empty place

Fills it with
Such beauty
