Lines & Words

I love

how a brush stroke
or a phrase
can create

an icon

how few lines
or words
are required

to tell a story

and how every story
and every icon
means something different

to everyone

Simplest Lines

I love to find
The simplest lines
In the complexity
Of nature

Though so reduced
In form I find
Her beauty
Undiminished

Love Grace Beauty Meaning

I am moved most

By the things we
     construct
     create
     imagine

For
     love
     grace
     beauty
     meaning

Utility
Matters little
To me

Except
In a tool
For creation

Southbound Highway 87, Between Round Top and Winslow, Arizona, United States of America

Where Adventure Begins

I take the straight road
Through the golden land
Beneath illumined skies

Somewhere beyond
The vanishing lines
Where the land rises
Above the horizon

The straight lines curve and wind
Flaxen plain becomes jagged stone
Sunset gives way to twilight
Gives way to deepest night

There the adventure begins

Winnowing

Armies are not raised
From the masses
But rather winnowed
With fear and anger
And the will toward violence
The way rain and runoff
Separates the stones
From the sediment

Past and Present

I take the old roads
The back roads
The scenic routes
In the off-season

I love the places
Which carry the past
Into the present

Better still, the places where
Past and present co-exist

Without need for justification

Invisible Wind

A cloudless sky
An invisible wind
But for the snow
Dragged over the peaks

A roiling plume

Like my mind
As I’m buffeted
Not so steadfast
As the rocky peaks

For Earth Day

When the moon and planets align
In the darkness that is not yet night
I am reminded that this home
This Earth
Is one preciously small orb
In a vastness sporadically dotted
With preciously small orbs
An infinitesimal in the infinite
Just like me
And I rejoice
In just how perfect that is

Slumber ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #136

As the snow fell, he slept
And it became
The slumber of aeons

His awakening would be
Celebrated around the world

Though his eyes never opened again

Forsaken Library

It had been a library
Once
I guess it still was
Though
What did that matter

Few
Enough left who could
Read
The irrelevant past
Now

Silly stories of
Love
Self help for plentiful
Times
Dystopian imaginings for a world of

Ease
So it was no wonder salvagers
Found
No value in printed
Words
