In magic hour’s
Golden glow
She tucks them gently
Into rustling sheets
Already deep
In slumber’s keep
A loving kiss
Upon each brow
Then turns away
Though not without
A backward glance
A silent sigh
She carries
With her
Into night
The peaceful sleep
Of innocents

I linger in deepening darkness
Counting out time
In fives by five

Collecting virtual waves
Of indigo and azure
Lavender and cobalt

Refracted and reflected
By atmosphere and cloud
And a near-flat sea

Magic time and light
Conjures from the darkness
Invokes unlikely hues

With the flourish of a shutter
Reveals to all the world
And me

The questing sea
Reaches for me
Then for the sky

Not at all content
With her lowly lot

Seeks to climb the shore

Or sunders self
Evaporates

Obtains a cloudy high
Though just a mist (as liquid falls to Earth)
Flows back as river to the sea
