Bypassed

Bypassed
I plunked myself down
On the well-travelled way
Which served me so well
For many a day

I didn’t notice
Until almost too late
That the times were a-changing
At a very fast rate

No longer a journey
Through country and towns
People no longer
Stopped in on their rounds

They by-passed my town
Then came the freeway
Traffic down to a trickle
And no one would stay

So change with the times
And flourish I must
Or live it out here
Amidst all the rust
