Parallels & perpendiculars
Take me away
Lead me astray
Through lines
End games
I do not know
From where I came
Nor necessarily
Where it all goes
Only that all imply
In my faraway mind
Movement & change
Parallels & perpendiculars
Take me away
Lead me astray
Through lines
End games
I do not know
From where I came
Nor necessarily
Where it all goes
Only that all imply
In my faraway mind
Movement & change
Not the destination
Every place I may want to go
Is a waypoint
On the way to another place
Neither the journey
What is to be gained
From moving
For the sake of movement
But once the wheels
Begin to roll
Changes begin
The promise manifests
What I see; How I think; Who I am
Of space and time
Of politics and social norms
Of family and friends
The things that stay
But never stay the same
The ephemeral things
Lost and soon forgotten
Nothing ever stays
But change
Which is often the point
Of these things we do to landscapes
Change the landscape
Change each other
Change ourselves
Nature and time
Eat away
At rings
Of hidden time
The history
Kept by nature
The long exhale
Following the deep, deep breath
The moment which moves
Between the change
And knowing
There is no going
back
Some will argue for the flow
Some will argue for the current
I remind myself
Step back to appreciate the whole
Evaluate the emergent patterns
Given an opportunity to observe
Beyond the confines of existing paradigms
Seek the possibility of a new way
Call it a canyon
Or call it a rut
A pretty enough rut, you say
Perhaps… but still a rut
So I scamper out
Leaving a trail
Of dusty memory
Seeking the open vista above
The expanse of the big sky
A land of possibility
One score and five thousand years ago
Human eyes came to see
Human hands learned to make
All our grandiose change
No match for nature’s hand
And I am the ship
Caught in arctic ice
Waiting out the season
Hoping for the sea to open
