Modern until tomorrow
When today becomes yesterday
When today becomes yesterday
Along Route 66
Illinois, United States of America
Illinois, United States of America
Taken during travels, 1997
I nearly published this poem as:
Modern
Or so we liked to think
Until we have an occasion
To look back
Or so we liked to think
Until we have an occasion
To look back
So I think forward
How primitive will I seem?
It’s such an ephemeral thing
Modernity
As true only
As this moment in time
Modern until tomorrow
When today is yesterday
But the final couplet seemed to stand alone… and cuts right to the chase.
And, yes, the faded letters below MODERN read, RESTROOMS.
