I discover the divine
In moments
Of connection
With all that is
I begin to wonder
If the divine
Is in the moment observed
Or is divinity
Created by the act
Of observing
I discover the divine
In moments
Of connection
With all that is
I begin to wonder
If the divine
Is in the moment observed
Or is divinity
Created by the act
Of observing
Destination calls
Beyond a pathless expanse
Beckoning promise
angry sea
angry sky
in between
the boughs all fly
tree trunks bow
wind tests their roots
and salts the air
with whitecaps flare
so here am I
lens held to chest
braced to keep
a steady frame
while all around
the chaos roars
a shutter click
renders it tame
For the moment
Only a thin sliver of hope
Graces the sky
Soon enough
The stars
The constellations
The galaxies
As the grand parade
Of existence
Once again
Fills the cosmos
The scents of sea
And conifers
Carried on the breeze
While I
Close my eyes
Breathe in
All of existence
Gathered in a moment
Spinning and spinning
In infinite space
And I no more than a mote
A sprinkling of star dust
Coalesced in flesh and bone
Which one day woke up
Asking questions about
The universe and itself
Is there more than that?
I may never know
Perhaps I simply forgot
Delightful frolics
When the clouds softened
Saw blade peaks
Rather than coat the sky
In remorseful grey
Like Today
I remember a better day
And another to come
A future memory known not by
Prescience nor forecast
Only, hope
Majestic
Formidable
Hard
weak
soft
supple
tenacious
Power
I often wish
That I could perceive time
Like mountains of stone
Or a star
Minutes pass like seconds
Epochs turned as the sun crosses the sky
To watch the birth and death of solar systems
The way in one short life
I’ve seen the comings and goings
Of family and fame
But this is the time I’m given
And but for the tricks
Of cameras and imagination
This is all the time I have
So best to try and wrench from it
Every moment I can experience
