Every morning in Rishikesh, as the sun rises over the Himalayas, a hard wind blows down the valley, driving the previous day’s accumulation of smoke and smog from the air. It’s chill and harsh, and oh so very welcome; for several hours, the choking smoke of India’s atmosphere is diminished.
Every morning, in a darkened and shuttered room of Ved Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh, I took meditation class as the sun and wind rose outside.
