Frost on Lichen on Granite

I wish for the solidness of rock
The stolidness of stone
Like the lichen clings to granite
Like the frost adheres to lichen

But the cold wind soon enough warms
While all life passes in time
And even the granite
Breaks down to pebbles
Then sand, then dust
Lifted by the wind

So best to be the river
Which knows only change
And that even granite
Will yield to it
In time
