Even at this narrowest end
The breadth and depth
Of the canyon
Makes Earth
Feel
small
Even at this narrowest end
The breadth and depth
Of the canyon
Makes Earth
Feel
small
Some days the world seems
So very small and I feel
So vulnerable
One tree in a forest
One stone on a beach
One face in a crowd
Dwarfed by sky and clouds
Or in the mountain’s shadow
Some small dot upon the plain
Not so much larger
Than its inhabitants
Nor any one who on the streets
Looks up at towers looming
Considering what hands have built
In any way diminishes
The smallest human being
Such that I
Go travelling
A great expanse
Or one so seeming
In truth
A journey of
A thousand miles
Is hardly more than one
In a universe
Far wider still
Than light
Has ever gone
I love being
In a space bigger than I
Where I wade out into expanse
So climb up
Up up up
Where the eagles soar
And become like a god
Surveying all below
