Ya don’t wanna see ’em as they are
Ya gotta see ’em why they are
Ya can always find the beauty in that
Every detail attended to
Clean lines and sturdy grace
All reflected in polished stone
But later
I notice
A chair is missing
Crumbs scattered on a table
In a lifetime dedicated
To observing the nuances
Of all details great and small
I wonder
What is the larger world
All that I’ve seen?
Or all that I’ve seen
But never saw…
Suddenly
The world I know
Seems very small
And I wonder
What you wonder
About what I wonder
While he wonders
About whom I wonder
All this seeing
And not seeing
All this wondering
About wondering
It all turns
Upon its tail
While all along
The water falls
With a noisy whoosh
The flow always down
Gravity draws all to Earth
Still we are always free
In our myriad ways
To see what we will see
All the while wondering
Just what is up
So bend my mind to fit
The world
Then see only the things
That fit
Ignore the things that don’t
One bit
I remind myself
It’s better to see
Things as they are
To see the dark
In the darkness
I often wonder, then
Am I the blur?
Am I the shadow?
In all those other eyes
I can barely see
Eye look in the mirror
Remind myself to look away
So eye can see the me who is
Rather than the me who is seen
Eye reflect on my deeds, on my actions
Measure them against my ideals, my beliefs
I is a thing
Which cannot see
Beyond the shell
Which houses I
I peer into their world
Try to understand what they see
How they see it
It helps me see
The nuance in my own world
In my own perception
Every now and again
I notice people
Peering back at me
A moment most illuminating
As it reminds me
Look at yourself, through their eyes
And so, I wonder
What do they see?
How do they see me?
Each a fleeting moment
Seen in the context
Of another realm
And none too clearly
What they are
Where they are
Who they are
Preconceptions projected
Upon an object
Obscuring the features
Of the object
