Of a world slipping into darkness
The light is most vivid
Capable of magiks
Unknown to daylight
Collecting virtual waves
Of indigo and azure
Lavender and cobalt
Refracted and reflected
By atmosphere and cloud
And a near-flat sea
Magic time and light
Conjures from the darkness
Invokes unlikely hues
With the flourish of a shutter
Reveals to all the world
And me
Sometimes
I realize
The magic of its light
Most days
It rises, it sets
Another day gone by
But today
It’s magic
And so am I
The waters
Preternaturally
Still
Beneath them slinks
Unearthly beast
And I
A Knight
With hallowed sword
Will sail across
Beyond the wards
And battle dragons
Which hurl epithets
And fire
The night woods
So dark
The sunny day
So bright
We master the light
Know the science, the art
The secrets of magic
Even under leaden sky
There is some magic yet
When lone gull wings
On rippling breeze
Grace in its poise
Careless of thought
Satisfied in arc
And swoop of flight
Which lifts me too
From baleful earth
Between the greys
Of clouds and sea
One sunny Sunday
Death came to my smithy
In his shroud of black
Trailing a shadow, like blood
Spilt on the butcher’s floor
Your time has come.
Said Death
What say you?
I am not ready, Ancient One.
So say they all.
