Layers deep
To promising light
From a ledge of darkness
Valleys and passes
Stand between
Despair and possibility
Layers deep
To promising light
From a ledge of darkness
Valleys and passes
Stand between
Despair and possibility
I arrive at the end
Of a rocky path
Where a beacon indicates
A vast unknown
Beneath a misty guile
But a light of no small promise
Beckons from a distance
My faith tells me
Is surmountable
Perhaps it will be a smooth sail
On a quiet sea
Or a road no less arduous
Than theĀ sharp-stoned path
Which bloodied my feet
Since many miles ago
No matter
The destination seems bright
And beautiful enough
While I have covered greater distances
With less hope
And no small despair
Lost
On a forkless path
Stop
Look for a door
A ladder, a rope
Turn
Seek another path
Upon retraced steps
Wait
For alternatives
To appear
Move
Follow the instinct
Which began this path
Despair
There is no despair
Only tenacity
Thunder rolls
Across the parchment plains
Rain is coming
Too late
And far too much
What little soil remains
After wind storms
And dust clouds
Carried the best of it
Off to the East
Will wash away
Rivulets cutting small canyons
Deep into the earth
And I
Perturbed by
Surly wind
Stand upon
This blackened shore
Witness to
Such vicious storm
Attest to irony
As anger seeps
Drawn from me
In receding waves
While despair
My unhappy lot
Whisked from me
By driven air
To mingle with
The passing cloud
That raging inferno
Of events
And despair
Perhaps the cool, calm place
Discovered me
I don’t know
Breathe life into my spirit
Bring warmth into my heart
Displace despair with optimism
