Lines light and playful
As a child’s smile
In twilight illuminate
Mother impatient
For changing lights
Her girl content
With latex-captured breath
Now as an adult
I am dominated by the fear
I learned as a child
Still
I see enough
To know the beauty
Of a moment
Initiate
Expectant
With trepidation
But driven
By curiosity
And possibility
Because he tried so hard
To place features
On their bodies
On their faces
Which he just couldn’t recollect
Over time he’d lost
The recollection of the places, too
How odd
That the one crystal clear element
In this one otherwise tortured image
Was the frame shop
Filled with photographs and paintings
Recorded for eternity
As a mother purifies herself
In the waters of the holy Ganga
While her daughters prepare
To leap in, yet again
The waft of
Lazy water
In the air
A worm
A hook
A bobber
A length of string
And a stick
Contented child
All summer long
