Few things are finer
Than a hearty feed
Of unchallenged delight
At some out of the way eatery
Perched on the edge
Of magnificence
Nova Scotia, Canada
Taken during travels, 2023
I spent several months on the Eastern Seaboard, both in New England and the Canadian Maritimes, where Lobster Rolls, Clam/Seafood Chowder and Fried Oysters/Clams (yes, all deservedly capitalized) are the most heralded comfort foods of the sea. And I tried them in just about every state and province I travelled through.
As far as lobster rolls go, the one served by Lawless Lobster at Meat Cove on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, was unequivocally the best. Generous with the lobster, bathed in a sauce of uncommon delight. Top marks as well for the Seafood Chowder.
An in-the-neighbourhood second goes to The Chowder House, at Neil’s Cove, also Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where the Seafood Chowder was also up to the task.
Deep Fried Oysters and Clams? That honour goes to The Lobster Connection in Tilton, New Hampshire.
Yum!
