Middle in the Morning Light

Middle Head in the Morninng, Franey Trail Lookout, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia, Canada

I observe the middle
Where the light burns brightest
And the way is known
On the well-worn path
Trod by myriad feet

I observe the middle
Then choose another way
For the well-worn path
Holds few surprises
And rarely offers insights

To the right is the Clyburn Valley. The point of land to the right is Cape Smokey. In the middle, partially bathed in reflected sunlight, is Middle Head, with one of the park’s best hiking trails.
