Walls

Light through the Lattice Wall, RIchmond, British Columbia, Canada
I erected walls
To keep my darkness contained
To keep me safe inside
To keep the searing light out

The light
It hurt too much
I saw too much
I felt too much

Darkness was cool
Darkness was painless
Darkness was sightless
Darkness was easy

Oblivion

But the light
Light is insistent
Light is tenacious
Light is demanding

The light chipped away
The light broke through
The light shone through
The light was beautiful

And so my darkness
Was illuminated
Until the darkness
Weighed too much

Because I accepted what I saw
Because I allowed the pain
Because I forgave the wounds
Because I embraced the darkness

Until darkness gave way
To the light
