Life

Bring colour
To the grimmest day

Life
And Love
Bring colour
To the grimmest day
Water of life
Cuts into stone
Reveals depths
To be plumbed
A hard journey down
A harder journey back
Rewards every step
Even the most painful
I look at myself
A blur
In the foggy mirror
Every morning
Even after washing away
Another layer
Of accumulated detritus
Like the sculptor
Finding the figure
Inside the stone
Like a cathedral
Not yet complete
A hundred years
After the passing
Of its architects
I remain a work in progress
Under construction
In this life
In the last
In the next
All that have been
And all yet to come
life finds a way
in the most inhospitable
conditions
places
times
to
survive
thrive
flourish
so too
can I
As I grew more confident
In being vulnerable
I began to understand
The strength in vulnerability
At the park
On a sunny Sunday
In a timeless observance
Of time’s frivolous expense
Small moments accumulate
In a life worth living
I find it
Almost always
A lesson as valuable
For the photographer
As for the pilgrim
Some for good
Some for naught
Most with barely
Any thought
A good many
I regret
But the life
Which made them
I do not
I learned
I grew
I fell down
I got back up
On a grey day
I learn gratitude
For lessons of darkness
Which made of me a man
Who finds light
In the littlest things
