Violet Night

Nightfall, Devil's Marbles, Northern Territory, Australia
When night falls
And the first stars
Begin to twinkle
In the darkening sky

I am reminded
Earth is a very small place
And I
I am a very small man

A point of consciousness
In a vast sea of matter
To which I do not matter
At all

This would crush any ego
Which might be a tragedy
If I wanted one
Ego-less, I am left to bask

Bask in the sheer beauty
And magnitude of all that is
And this little ball of gas-sheathed rock
Circling a sun painting the night sky
