Sometimes the light is so bright
Abstract, Poetry, Samsung Galaxy S5
by Patrick JenningsOctober 30, 201511:54 pmOctober 30, 2015

A light so bright it blinds me

Sometimes
The light is so bright
It blinds me

And then
I am able to
Truly see

      Thank you.

A crew of 20 or so lighting and special effects technicians created this sumptuous moment of light.

Among the treats of working on set while filmmaking is the very large crew which lights the scene under the guidance of the Director of Photography. Without an 18,000 watt lamp, a very tall mechanical lift to place it, a dozen or so smaller lamps, a couple hefty smoke machines and enormous fans to spread the smoke, and a generator the size of a shuttle bus to power it all, this image doesn’t happen.

The words… I thank the voices of the ancients for those. : )

What a lovely explanation–it must be fascinating, the work you do. And yes, “the voices of the ancients”–how marvelous!

: ) Like any job… it’s a job. So, there are routines, and stresses. The day moves quickly, so you have to stay ahead of it. It’s also long. Typically 12+ hours, 5 days a week.

But as a job, there are few I would rather have. You meet and work with some fascinating people. Every now and again, you get to work on something you believe in. But what’s most important is that cast and crew be excellent to each other.

I believe in The Magicians … and it has among the most excellent cast and crew I’ve ever worked with. I hope it does as well as I think it will.

Oh my, those are very long days! I’m glad to hear this is a project you enjoy working on–I hope it does well too.
