Some billions of years ago
In pools such as these
On the shores of a boiling sea
From the humblest beginnings
A miracle still
Such simple creatures
Would become the miracle, me
From the humblest beginnings
A miracle still
Such simple creatures
Would become the miracle, me
Water comes from Earth
Builds the land
Deposits micro canyons
The vivid ones
Of course
Neons and electrics
Brash and confrontational
The crazy-ass kind
I never knew existed
Never thought could exist
And then
I am able to
Truly see
Sometimes
That
Is all
I need
We create spaces
Walk away from them
Return, re-visit, renovate
We take what was
And make of it
Something else
Whether for utility
Or a statement
What could say autumn more
With such spare beauty
And somber solitude?
I only hope
That when others come upon them
They see what I see
Something beautiful
Necessary
With good-natured purpose
