On the platform
Aloof
Caught
In a moving frame
From a passing train
Lost
To space and time and mind
But for a shutter’s click
Else
I might not have seen
He was ever there
While
Nought but a shadow he
Featureless and obscure
Now
A mystery
I happily leave unresolved
I trundle along the escarpment
Of this thin edge of immensity
Immersed in the awe
Of all that I do not yet know
And the greater mystery
Of all that I will never know
Thus is the curse
And the beauty
Of consciousness
Accept the beauty
In what is revealed
Keep faith in the obscured
While a mystery
Perfectly perceived
Remains a mystery
The cormorant dives deep
But must wait for its feathers to dry
Before it can fly again
I wonder at the lives
Lived in the glow
Which to me
Seems just a dot
Reflected
Off a still sea
Blessed shade and gloom
In an existence
Which fears the light
Grateful for each eclipse
Beauty in the shadows
Mystery in the illumined
Too bright for eyes to see
And I am never sure
Which outcome I prefer
A mystery revealed
Or mystery secure
But I am drawn
Inexorably
To those of mystery
Promising adventure
Challenge
And discovery
I prefer quests of query
Over sorties of attainment
