Just a little beyond my grasp
I imagine myself a tower
With the pinnacle in my hand
Much as I
On challenged path
Lose my balance
Then regained
A beacon there
Should day grow dark
Along the way
Seeking the deep powder
The cruisable hard pack
The soft moguls
The challenge
Is not so much the hardships
But remembering
What trandscending
The hardships brings
But clamber up
One mountainside
And from atop
Discover
Endless array
Of pinnacles
Each mighty in itself
Waiting to be conquered
But I am drawn
Inexorably
To those of mystery
Promising adventure
Challenge
And discovery
I prefer quests of query
Over sorties of attainment
The places
The people
Who challenge them
Whether they succeed
Or fail
Physical
Geographical
Emotional
Intellectual
Personal
Romantic
And every time
Find something new
Some original way to see
Some valuable insight
But on closer inspection
I realized
It was the surface
Of a turquoise planet
Where a river once ran
Along a cerulean canyon
Carved through southern aqua badlands
Ride them
Duck them
Vault them
Or I can stand firm
And let the ocean wash over me
Feel its power
Enjoy the surge of energy
As it flows all around me
