Unlikely Hues

I linger in deepening darkness
Counting out time
In fives by five

Collecting virtual waves
Of indigo and azure
Lavender and cobalt

Refracted and reflected
By atmosphere and cloud
And a near-flat sea

Magic time and light
Conjures from the darkness
Invokes unlikely hues

With the flourish of a shutter
Reveals to all the world
And me

Seagull at Melfort Bell

A seagull cries
O’er the buoy bell ringing
The lapping tide
Is a gentle sigh

While I gather mussels
To steam in seasoned water
For dinner and wine

With you, my love
While boats and whales

Ply the narrow channel

The Reaching Sea

The questing sea
Reaches for me
Then for the sky

Not at all content
With her lowly lot

Seeks to climb the shore

Or sunders self
Evaporates

Obtains a cloudy high
Though just a mist (as liquid falls to Earth)
Flows back as river to the sea

Bruised Sullen Delight

Bruised
     the sky
     the land
     and the sea

Sullen
     in demeanor
     and intent
     are they

Nature’s Afterglow

Is it aftermath
Or afterglow
When the storm is past
And the sun sinks low
Behind scattering clouds
Reflected in calming waves

I suppose
It is a matter of perspective
As most extreme conditions are
So I tend to see the glow

And the storm?

When the moon and planets align
In the darkness that is not yet night
I am reminded that this home
This Earth
Is one preciously small orb
In a vastness sporadically dotted
With preciously small orbs
An infinitesimal in the infinite
Just like me
And I rejoice
In just how perfect that is
