The sun bid good night
The moon rubbed sleep from her eyes
“Woo hooo!!! Let’s party!”
The sun bid good night
The moon rubbed sleep from her eyes
“Woo hooo!!! Let’s party!”
Every now and again
Nature conspires with time
To create moments
Of utter perfection
While I am graced
With permission
Not only to witness
But record
Day’s end
Indigo encroaches
On amber and rose
Tomorrow encroaches
On today in my mind
Song of the sea
Caresses the shore
Soothes my soul
Sends me off to slumbers
Sun teases horizon
Gulls cry the morning’s alarm
Warm pastels ignite the clouds
Below wan blue skies
And I
Wakened from deep repose
Welcome another day
Of adventure in unfamiliar lands
Thoughts take root in my mind
Distractions laid upon the clear path
Undermine rhythm and pace
Obscure the way
Stop
Breathe
Let go the thoughts
Let go of thinking
Let go the desire for distraction
Breathe
Let in the clarity of The Way
Breathe
The true path revealed
Breathe
Step
Breathe
Step, step
I cannot think the path into being
I cannot follow what is not already there
I observe the middle
Where the light burns brightest
And the way is known
On the well-worn path
Trod by myriad feet
I observe the middle
Then choose another way
For the well-worn path
Holds few surprises
And rarely offers insights
Above
A half moon
Below
Constellations of daisies
Quiver in the dewy grass
Between
The tower seeks
A delinquent sun
On a morning ruled by mist
I paddle out onto the calm sea
Despite the listless surf
Rather, no
Because of it
I love the thrill of catching a wave
The feel of the board cutting through the water
The acceleration as the curl builds
And, yes
Even the tumult
When the sea punishes me
For my errors
But I love too
The moments between waves
The calm quiet introspection
Gentle swells sway me
An ocean hammock in the breeze
Take a deep breath
And another
Feel my resting heart beat
In a state of peace
Here am I
Rapt in my own presence
In time with the rhythm
Of nature
Some days
I prefer these long deep breaths
Over the exhilaration
Of a racing heart
So I paddle out
Sit with my being for a while
Then paddle back in
At peace with the world
And myself
She ran through the frame
Dressed in all the right bright colours
A child’s exuberance
Equal to the vibrance
Of the setting
Click click click
Went the shutter
All good
But one click
Is perfect
Ephemeral moment
Eternally captured
I have to admit there are an overabundance of road pics in my catalogue, photographs in which various streets, highways, byways and gravel tracks from my travels serve as the primary subject of a landscape. Mind you, I’m not apologizing for that. We photograph and write about what we know and love, and I love few things more than being behind the wheel of a car (or pedaling a bicycle) through unknown country. Over 40+ years of driving and cycling I’ve amassed several hundreds of thousands of miles wheeling on just about every road surface imaginable.
Safe to say, I know roads.
