Unanswerable Questions

There are an infinity of stories this photograph could inspire. Normally, I’d be delighted to explore them. But I’m hesitant.

Something about the image’s latent intimacy. Perhaps it’s the presence of children, and the protective way the youngest are being carried, and that we can’t see either of their faces, that one is entirely swaddled, that the emotion in the faces we do see can be read in so many ways.

While I’ve imposed numerous narratives on other photographs of people, and the people in them, best this time, I think, not to disturb the enigma. Instead, enjoy the inevitable flurry of unanswerable questions.
