Privilege

Passing By, Airport Taxi, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India
I remind myself
Often
Even in times like these
Especially in times like these
Just how privileged my life became

By a simple accident of birth

Passing By
Airport Taxi
Varanasi
Uttar Pradesh, India

Wow…yes–I realize I take too much for granted, so thank you.

Yep. I need to write one of these every once in a while to remind myself. So, thank you for ‘getting it’. 🙂

It totally did–I confess it caught me up short, as truth sometimes can, and I felt a bit ashamed.

We’re all at least a little ignorant and naive, I think. Learning that, here and there, a little or a lot at a time… nothing shameful in that. omigod, i’d be ashamed of myself all the time! Shameful would be to learn of my ignorance or naivete, but choose not to change it. 😉

Good points 🙂 I grew up in a shame-based household/family, so it’s kind of a default for me. I have to consciously shake it off 🙂

That is a heavy burden to carry, and a difficult one to unpack and leave behind. Being present enough to shake it off is a remarkable step many never take. Kudos to you.

Ohhh, thank you for your lovely words. It’s kind of a continual process/journey–things surface, and I have to “shake ’em off” again. Building a new identity, rewriting one’s story–it’s a lifelong project, I think. Strength, character and faith grow with each step forward.
