Lotus Petals

Petals fallen
To dimpled pond
Where raindrops gather
On lotus pads
A thousand diamonds glittering
Under slate grey skies

Rain quells nature’s sounds
No songbirds sing
No children shout
Ours are the only ears
To hear
The gentle white-noise patter
Of rainfall
Coming back to Earth

We stand in peaceful silence
Together, against the rail
Touching shoulders
In an utter calm
Of contentment
