fireflies

Reflections, New Brighton Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The fireflies
In the bottle by
My bed at night
Twinkle like
The stars outside

They power dreams
Of boyhood flight
To other worlds
Beyond the stars

But by the morn’
The stars have died
Extinguished lights
Lie on the glass

Fallen from
The blades of grass
Which held them in
Their makeshift sky

Soon enough
Dusk falls again
The boy collects
His jar of stars

So to stir
Imaginings
And still the fears
The darkness brings
