The Ovaltine Cafe

The Ovaltine Cafe, Downtown Eastside, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
I’m drawn back
To another time
In a place
Ever unchanging

I imagine
Fedoras and furs
Cat eyes and horn rims
White gloves and ties

In a time when money moved here
Churned, turned over, spread the wealth
But the churn now is misery
For the downtrodden and forgotten

This is the Downtown Eastside
Where the inviting vibrance of neon
That was
No longer is

One last kick at artificial for Jennifer Nichole Wells’ One Word Photo Challenge

The shadow is cast off the neon lights by a 12K light, and the glass has been ‘aged’ by scenic painters to give it that dingy dive feel. The director of photography assured me the shadow was a happy accident, but it sets such a perfect noir mood.
