The path I find myself upon
Began within a vast unknown
In which I couldn’t find my heart
Though the path, it seems
Unwinds in random ways
Through places unfamiliar
A light calls out
Both day and night
Drawing ever nearer
The path I find myself upon
Began within a vast unknown
In which I couldn’t find my heart
Though the path, it seems
Unwinds in random ways
Through places unfamiliar
A light calls out
Both day and night
Drawing ever nearer
Hackles raised
With the advent
Of some unknown
And unknowable
Beyond the fringe
Of a haze
Most dense
A trail
Betwixt and between
Courage unstilled
Curiosity unquenchable
Footfalls not to be denied
I step forward
Into the haze
The unknowable
Becomes known
Only to those
Who enter it
Suspended in Amber
This moment on the road
Through the haze
Distant possibilities
Seem promising
But the road veers away
Perhaps to destinations unknown
So I bathe in the amber
And in the moment’s reflection decide
Whether there
Or elsewhere
Reside possibilities unknown
The road takes me
Where it will
An unknown road
Into unknown lands
For the spectrum of possibilities
I strike a balance
Between fear
And anticipation
Then lean heavily
On the latter
Where once the road
Went ever on and on
The straight and narrow
A path long fixed
Now curves ahead
Promise us adventure
Through lands ahead unknown
The future far beyond
And I
No more or less the merry
For what is known and what is not
All are part the journey
Sometimes
I am reminded
The best path
Is not always direct
The best place
Is not always familiar
The best means
Is not always expedient
Sometimes
A leisurely pace
Into the unknown
Offers the surest road
To a cherished end
As yet unidentified
The winding path
Which takes me well beyond
Desired goals
Has served me well
Offered possibility
Once well outside my ken
Comforts challenged
Bound’ries shattered
With every step astray
From oft trod trails
Discover unknown countries
Within myself
A lesser man would I be
Who’d stayed the straight and narrow course
To some place known
When I’d set out
Dawn breaks in pastels
Scattered city lights
Which had powered night
Fade with encroaching day
Soon enough extinguished
While the trail
Marking my departure
Rises from the darkness
Now a frothy white
Upon grey slate
Receding mountains’ majesty
Diminishes with steady progress
In some few hours to be lost
Behind the moon-swelled sea
Held fast by Earth’s own gravity
So go I
Beyond the realm
Of all I know
To places
I’ve not yet loved
You with the sad eyes
Who found the glass
In this swarm of activity
And I released the shutter
Capturing your moment
Of I know not what
Tired?
Beaten down?
Or just weary
Of yet another tourist
Stealing a moment of your life
For a purpose you’ll never know
