In this ashen light
Spectacular seems
Not to apply
And yet…
Above the boughs
Perched on rocky cliff
Perturbed sea
Sullen clouds
Mountains from sea through sky
And yet…
Above the boughs
Perched on rocky cliff
Perturbed sea
Sullen clouds
Mountains from sea through sky
Rain quells nature’s sounds
No songbirds sing
No children shout
Ours are the only ears
To hear
The gentle white-noise patter
Of rainfall
Coming back to Earth
A little old
A little weary
I can rest here
Be in this peaceful moment
What’s a little rain
A little discomfort
After a life of so many storms
A single flower
Still held in bud
Though petals fall
Onto the pond
They tarry there
Before they sink
And come to rest
To where they’ll feed
Next season’s bloom
While the light
Clings to them all
Clings to me
Clings to my mind
Clings to my heart
I suppose that is the way
Of rainforest life
I hanker for the sun
Complain about the wet
But it exhausts me
when the sun stays too long
But every now and again
The sun shines through
For weeks, or months
