A blanket of newness
Illuminated by the glow
Soon to become
Yesterday’s sun
A blanket of newness
Illuminated by the glow
Soon to become
Yesterday’s sun
Soft and sharp
Lavender petals fall
On broken glass
So is the acceptance
Of our sad reckoning
Embraced in tears
Dawn already
Come and gone
First sun reflects
From wintry throne
Beneath the glow
Of cloudless sky
I hold my grief
In chill repose
The magic light
Has challenged woes
Soon comes the smile
Upon the sigh
On a crisp December day
Atop an inverted sky
Snowy clouds
Blown across the ice
Thighs itch
From penetrating chill
A wan sun
Does nothing to warm
A few moments here
To record the scene
Then retreat
To the warmth
Of electric fire
A sugary cup
Of cocoa
And family
Gentle current
Beneath the ice
Downstream rumbles
Break the crust
And I am freed
Majestic
Formidable
Hard
weak
soft
supple
tenacious
Power
Before the peaks
The hills
Before the hills
The valley
Before the valley
I must leave
This place of numbing
Before I die
Then in between
The verdigris
And igneous
Within them all
Find I
Though the paths I see
Attain neither peak nor pass
Trapped in this valley of lassitude
Now what is near
Seems quite clear
But far from here
Is more obscure
Detail lost
Colour sallowed
Though sun breaks through
Its presence mellowed
Yet, still
