The darkness came
And in this isolated
Night of the soul
I must seek the light
Within
Or so I think
Reminded by
The tides of seas
The tides of light
As moon circles I
As I circle sun
Not choice
Nor fate
All that is
Circles round
In ebb and flood
Nature’s harmony
Of shade and tone and texture
The way the gull finds the air
Which lifts him into the sky
The foamy leading edge
Of the wave lapping at my feet
Soft light through a rain-spattered window
With a good book and a cozy couch
A solid from liquid
Carved and shattered
Cracks refilled by molten rock
Uplifted and fractured
Sundered and separated
Tumbled and rolled
Now here
Settled gently
On the shore
Of a still lake
On a quiet dawn
To marvel at the fleeting existence
Of the things that live
Even the tree
I feel my heart
Thrum in my chest
I feel the heat
Within my soul
I feel the beat
Of wordless rhyme
I am complete
Connected time
