Hiking into the Quiet
A few steps beyond
My car parked at the trailhead
The day falls away
Rock ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #110
Gouged from mountains, crushed by time and ice, now at rest
Here I, immersed in the hiker’s mindful peace
Each measured step a meditative breath
Though, could I see
The immensity of time
With the eyes of this still young Earth
Then peaceful moment lost
Turmoil and cataclysm of tumbling land
And in those eyes, what am I?
But a mote of dust
Lost to infinity
Beauty is Beauty
I break trails
Find my way
Through unknown lands
To destinations yet
Undiscovered
Unreconnoitered
Unexpected
This is what I live for
Finding a new path
To a beautiful place
Rarely visited before
But I live too
For the well-worn trail
The short, easy hike
To a well-known vista
Of no small beauty
The Land Which Fell on its Side
Geologically speaking
The land rose up
Then fell back to Earth
Landing on its side
Where it took a long
Long
Very long
Rest
Even geologically speaking
And as it lies there
Like a cat on blanket
Napping in the afternoon sun
Coming through the window
Mother Nature soothes
Its hard, rigid body
With a massage of
Wind, rain and
Savage heat
Half the way to space
And climbed
All day we climbed
And then we rested
Ate and slept a little
Then rose
Rose up in the dark
And then we climbed
And climbed some more
Torches in our hands
Footfalls stiff
On granite cold
Moments With Family
With its proud vistas
And exquisite scenery
There is nothing
More beautiful
Than a moment shared
