Of late afternoon
I paddle out into the lake
And just go calm
Calm as the air
Calm as the water
Resolute as the mountain
Free as the clouds
In a silence unbroken
But for the loon’s plaintive call
I sit
And rest
Calm as the air
Calm as the water
Resolute as the mountain
Free as the clouds
In a silence unbroken
But for the loon’s plaintive call
I sit
And rest
I begin to understand
Why both the light and the dark
Are necessary
The fractal geometry
Of everything
Littler things
Make up little things
Little things
Make up bigger things
Bigger things
Make up big things
I take a breath, breathing in the magical divinity of existence
Edges unaligned
Contexts out of reference
Colours unbalanced
There was the great sea of hope
Dashing upon the rocks
Settling in little pools
Where intrepid molecules linked
Carbon to carbon
With oxygen and hydrogen
In that way
Love is as pure as light
As powerful as gravity
As infinite as time and space
All the brushes
Nature requires
To paint with stardust
On the canvas of existence
When rock flowed as liquid
And the only solid lands
Were granite rafts
Floating on a molten orb
