What better moment
Can there be
Than when my eyes
Can see
All the many colours
That can be
Perhaps only
That moment
When I can love
All the many colours
That are me
What better moment
Can there be
Than when my eyes
Can see
All the many colours
That can be
Perhaps only
That moment
When I can love
All the many colours
That are me
Suffocating smoke
Smothers glimmer and glee
Even the sun subdued
To wan gloom
Long before it sets
Still
I know colour lingers beneath
Recall its effervescence
Manifest the latent joy
Until that rises above the horizon
Of my heart
I remind myself
On the dreary days
The days that drain my heart
Of all but grey
Seek the colours
Let them saturate my being
Rekindle the joy in my heart
I marvel
For a moment
At the saris
Hanging in the shops
A spectacle of
Colour
Texture
Pattern
Each sari unique
Tightly packed
In the confines
Of tiny shops
Not at all unlike
The thrumming humanity
In the narrow streets
Of Chandni Chowk
Peace besets me
In this dwindling hour of daylight
Content with the cool darkness to come
Eyes closed
In your arms
A burst of colour
Beyond any sunset
