The sea surrounding
The forest abutting
The mountains above
Vancouver
Gateway
To the outdoors
Adventure’s
Threshold
My city
Vancouver
Gateway
To the outdoors
Adventure’s
Threshold
My city
Dwarfed by sky and clouds
Or in the mountain’s shadow
Some small dot upon the plain
Not so much larger
Than its inhabitants
Nor any one who on the streets
Looks up at towers looming
Considering what hands have built
In any way diminishes
The smallest human being
Even in the greys
Which days accumulate
A stroll along the sandy edge
A hike among the mossy boughs
Beauty subtly seductive
Invigorates my spirit
And in this lies
A beauty plain
Where truth is told
In high relief
No shadow cast
No grey to mask
On one side white
The other black
Sometimes, while crossing
I remember
There are dreams to be fulfilled
On both sides
What could be
More iconic
India
While the bells clang
Insistently
In golden Varanasi
Where the priests
Celebrate Shiva
With a dance of fire
