When I see, clearly
How connected we all are
How our beings interweave
Overlap
How each of us is
In some small
Significant
Way
A part of us all
In another time
When the pier was planked
And we sailors came
In another time
Oh so long ago
In a world now lost
In a city of
Greys and dust
And muted blues
A young smile
Comes to me
“Take my picture”
She says
Then stands there
Happy and poised
In vivid red
With filters
Adding colours
With thinking
Adding meanings
Until the world I see
Looks nothing like
The world which is
One I observe most completely
With a quiet mind
And a still body
A peace I take with me
A harmony I can experience, anytime
By relaxing my body
Stilling my mind
And taking a few deep breaths
Sometimes
I think
The road unknown
Explores as much
The me I do not know
Which is all the more enticing
Than the me I believe is me
Calm as the air
Calm as the water
Resolute as the mountain
Free as the clouds
In a silence unbroken
But for the loon’s plaintive call
I sit
And rest
There’s often a line
A flow
A grace unintended
Unnoticed
Unseen before the backward glance
Here
and
There
Holdover from a time
Of neon
Air-con
And movin’ on
In the intricate darkness
I find beauty
I find insight
Without a subtle understanding
Of the complexity of darkness
I will never see the light truly
