Black and White

From behind the clouds
The sun leaps out
Glares in my eyes
The world becomes
A contrast of
Simple black and white

The details lost
No greys or shadows
The colours lost
No textured nuance

And it occurs to me
The same thing happens
When I shine the light too hard
On the truths I’m seeking

Rolling in
Crashing down
Leaving me sputtering
Gasping

Though…
Every now and again
I catch one
A long glorious ride
Exhilaration
Exultation
Delightful experience
All the way to shore

I lie back upon the grass
Beneath a clear night sky
Wond’ring at the vastness

In a tiny dot
Of twinkling light
A hundred billion stars reside

The moon slides by
Smiling at me

Full and proud
Chest puffed out

A tiny ball of dust and rock

Climb up into darkling sky
Long before the sun awakes
Ambush it there
In its rising shout
Neon rainbow
Across the world
Beyond the edge
Of Earth
Beyond the realm
Of life itself
