Rishikesh
Uttarakhan, India
Taken during travels, 2017
For a week, I stayed in Ved Niketan Ashram, where I practiced yoga and meditation. It was a 10 minute walk south of the Ram Jhula bridge, about 3km away (a couple miles) from Laxman Jhula.
Most days, I walked the distance between these places at least a couple times. The walls of another smaller ashram, with its affirmations in red paint, lay about half way on the path — let’s call it a road, due to the constant scooter traffic — between Rishikesh’s iconic pedestrian bridges (well, the scooters use those too).
Passing the wall gave me a little spirit boost every time. I’d say a little “Om” to myself every time I walked past the familiar symbol painted on the gate.
