Nature’s architects
With little more than time and sand
A little wind, a spot of rain
Build great cities
Rife with ornament

Sometimes
It’s difficult to tell
Which is which
Until I try to open them
I listen to the earth
And her creatures
Awakening
There are places of the past
We let go
To lie fallow and go to ground
Because we no longer need them
Mine is the hand with the eye
Sometimes
That
Is all
I need
We create spaces
Walk away from them
Return, re-visit, renovate
We take what was
And make of it
Something else
Whether for utility
Or a statement
