Beside the sea
Upon this treeless scrap of rock
Verdant grasses grow
A village built
Astride storm battered stone
Safe harbour for the fishers
Beside the sea
Upon this treeless scrap of rock
Verdant grasses grow
A village built
Astride storm battered stone
Safe harbour for the fishers
Greater than the magic of fairytales
Is a simpler
More beautiful enchantment
When once upon a time
Comes with every sunrise
Here’s a realm
Where every little girl
Is a princess
Holding court
Over puppy dogs
And rag dolls
With her maids
And maidens
Explores a wonderland
Of salt spray
Sea shells
And hermit crabs
While the ocean
Stretches out
Beyond the horizon
Of imagination
Beckoning
But feel the beckoning
Which stirs my being
As if ’twas yesterday
Ancestral tribes departed her for land
But perched here
On the hillside
A few hundred feet high
It is just 20 miles
To where the sea
Touches the sky
I know the waves
Will be breaking
Far off the shore
Carrying their foam
Up onto the beach
