Nothing in the rearview
But what I carry with me
Eyes forward
Movin’ on
Leavin’ all the dust
Behind me
Eyes forward
Movin’ on
Leavin’ all the dust
Behind me
Then I turn forward
Take the next step
With a clearer vision
Of the trials and adventures
The path ahead promises
He is a shadow
That is his essence
It surprised me
That I admired him
For his perseverance
For his tenacity
For his will to exist
For his endurance
While I imagine pyramids
And Pharaohs
Slaves and Gods
In a dreamtime
Of human greatness
And cruelty
With filters
Adding colours
With thinking
Adding meanings
Until the world I see
Looks nothing like
The world which is
It’s like swimming through a sea
Of stems and raspy leaves
The stiff breeze wrestles up a wave
Which rolls across the grassland and trees
A moment of cool in the sun roasted air
Which clings to my lips, dries my lungs
All I need
Is to open them
To see truly
And the light floods in
I will be the willow
And not the hammer
I will be the water
And not the rock
Where there is hate
I will love
Where there is greed
I will give
An anachronism
A paradox
To a Westerner
Like me
