Intertwining branches
Of my relationships
With others
With institutions
With responsibilities
With goals and aspirations
With the dreams
I only allow myself
At night
Curled safely
In my own bed
With the dreams
I only allow myself
At night
Curled safely
In my own bed
While the light
Clings to them all
Clings to me
Clings to my mind
Clings to my heart
My eyes, they cannot see
The fine details
In just a narrow band
Of frequencies
I reach down, deep
Pull back the sand
To reveal beauty
Unimaginable
So I wonder
Am I sure to reach my goal
At the end of this valley
The path may be obscured
I may lose my way
Or become disoriented
Then the wave comes
And I wonder anew
At the interplay of moving water and sand
The rivulets and eddies and smaller waves
Each wave believing
It will roll on forever
Beautiful patterns
Surprising, exquisite
Challenging, evocative
Alarming, provocative
When I return
To pick them up
They are no longer
The same moments
