On a new day
Of a new year
I remind myself
Do the work
To stay focused
On what’s important
On a new day
Of a new year
I remind myself
Do the work
To stay focused
On what’s important
I wonder if I’ve ever been
The subject of someone’s
Best photograph of the day
But never found out
Like this fellow here
On the third shot of eleven
Who never looked up
So never saw the camera
Pointed out the taxi window
Capturing this delightful moment
Colours and edges
Splashes and blur
Nothing to see
But for the eyes
A turn of a head
And just enough detail
This would be a discard
X’d out on a contact sheet
But for those eyes
Because now I want to know
What she sees
Unsettled
Uncertain
Movement fractured
Undeterred
Unrelenting
Moving forward
Still
I see enough
To know the beauty
Of a moment
Reminded of the virtues:
Steadfast focus
Attention to detail
And a good tripod
A colourful picture
Beautiful
But the focus
Is a little short
The rickshaws
Are sharp
But the people
Are not
All outside
Just fades away
As the years proceed
The man I was
Drifts further
And further
Into the shadows
Until, in the mirror
There is only
The man who is
Frustration
As true in art
As in life
