Layer upon layer
Expression upon expression
The new obscures the old
The old shines through the new
A temporal collage
Of overlapping insights
Expressions, realizations
Hoping, in the end
The sum of it all
Creates some enduring meaning
The new obscures the old
The old shines through the new
A temporal collage
Of overlapping insights
Expressions, realizations
Hoping, in the end
The sum of it all
Creates some enduring meaning
I struggle to see
The beauty here
In a world
Of grim and grime
Of damage and refuse
The hard task
On this spirit path
Find the beauty
In all things
But there is colour
Form and texture
Elements underlie design
And the dynamic
Of a captured moment
In an old man’s morning
I have just the small talent
To capture in image
And evoke in word
An incomprehensible
Perfection
But it can, I replied.
She looked at me. Puzzled.
It just needs to be cinematically ugly.
Which is to say
It must still be beautiful.
Still puzzled.
So I expanded.
With light and mass
We shape the world
For beauty’s sake
I love the way
Mind renders lines
To pleasure me
I love to follow the arc
Luxuriate in the sensation
Experience the emotion of tone
Map out the journey of my eye
Through the continents of shapes
Beauty
To pick them now
Would be a sin
Though lovely vase
I’d put them in
No matter rooms
They’re brightening
The beauty of a flower is
The life it holds
While purpose lives
Not in its petals
On the ground
Arranged so pretty
An artful mound
