And the sun rose today
Just as it has every day
For millions of years
Just as it has the hundreds of times
I’ve watched it rise before

Darkness emergent
Light brings shape
From the night
Form
Meanings

I am certain
No one knew
The fate which had been wrought
When the first arches were erected

Or was it rather
A prophecy?

The intermittent rain comes down
Over millions of years, seems steady
Washing away
Uncovering
Leaving spires and hoodoos
Revealing forms underlying

When I finally turned my gaze
From the world that’s all around me
Turned my eye to look within
And find the source that drives me

It wasn’t long before I found
A crack in my demeanor
A harrowing
Of imperfection
A way in which I’m broken

Many, many times have I
Eschewed the paths in darkness
To take instead a path in light
My wisdom interceding

Until one day thought I
Perhaps the dark is just unknown
In need of light
And wanting an explorer

Sometimes I think
It would be nice
If there were bold
Bright signs along the path
Warning me
What’s coming up
On the journey
That is life

Some experiences remind me of the perfect beauty of it all
Like the expansiveness of a rocky mountain range
Under blue skies and scattered clouds

Some roads always make me feel
Like I’m on a child’s
Hot Wheels track

Or have jumped back in time
Nearly a century

I love when days end
With gentle, graceful fanfare
When the sun bids adieu
With gentle warmth
Before a lingering kiss goodnight
