I make an Island of myself
Against every prohibition
Bask in the sun
On isolated shores

Until the gloom rolls in
And I see the distant lights
Across the unbridged gap
Understanding at last

The vulnerability
Of this small Islet of Me
Amiss in a vast
And lonely sea

I seek something to photograph
Anything to set words on a course

Out of inspiration
Time and photographs exhausted
Post due on the morrow

At a favourite pull-out
Setting up sticks and cam
While the light fails

30 Seconds

The light falls fast
While I setup the camera
Darker and darker
As I extend tripod legs

Quick glances to the valley below
Hoping for enough light
To capture the clouds in the valley
To find detail in the trees
And the valley mist

Finally, set up
And capturing frames
When I begin to notice
As one light fails
Another rises

A little old boat

I rest
Moored securely in the calm waters
Harried by the rain, a little bit
But that’s OK
It’s only rain
And I can while away the hours
The days
Until the next time I sail

A little old
A little weary
I can rest here
Be in this peaceful moment
What’s a little rain
A little discomfort
After a life of so many storms
